...That Dyslexia affects between 10-20 per cent of our population? With this statistic in mind, it’s likely that every teacher supports at least one student in their classroom who struggles to read because of this specific learning disability.

Why Raise Awareness in Classes
Identification of dyslexia
Those who struggle to read are screened and diagnosed early and get help and accommodations as soon as possible so they can reach their full potential
Those with a dyslexia diagnosis are no longer denied accommodations they are entitled to, such as extended time on high-stakes exams like the KCPE, KCSE and others
Kids with dyslexia need specific and direct instruction in reading. A number of reading programs are designed to help kids with dyslexia.
Children and adults with dyslexia don’t assume they’re stupid and instead develop self-awareness about who they are and what it means to be dyslexic
“a teacher educated about dyslexia can be the one person who saves a child and his/her family from years of frustration and anxiety. That teacher can play a pivotal role in changing the whole culture of the school”.
Dr. Kelli S. Hurley

Dyslexia can have a profound impact on a student's ability to read and write. Without these invaluable language skills, students with dyslexia can experience avoidable and lifelong educational, social, and economic problems. For this reason, it is important to start and continue having a conversation about dyslexia early on, so that the emergent challenges are tackled.
Specialist intervention is always important when identifying and managing dyslexia. It is therefore important for your school to invite one of our capable members to aid in this campaign. The specialist will advice on all matters to do with dyslexia, and guide your efforts towards this campaign.

Colours are indeed the smiles of nature. The red colour signifies love and compassion, and in this context, helps to spread awareness about dyslexia. To mark this day very special, students and the teachers were dressed in red clothes, and classes were decorated with red balloons.
Your school can participate by preparing poems with a dyslexia message, and also in other activities such as painting and reading.
You could also take photos and videos and don't forget to share them with us so that we can post them on all our official platforms!
